Last Friday - Monday recap, in brief and a couple days late:

  • A quick and easy flight out.  A quick and easy flight home.  Miami is so close, we should all go there more often.
  • Hotel upgrade led to a giant room at the Gansevoort complete with a super high  ceiling, a wall of huge floor to ceiling windows, and a fantastically comfortable bed.
  • Bright hot days, cooler but never cold nights.
  • A day by the pool - filled with swims, snacks, and naps - is a most wonderful way to spend a sunny Saturday.  Especially when that pool is on the roof.
  • Lots of walks.  Good to see that most of the spots I visited during my last trip to South Beach in 1998 are still around.
  • A little bit of rain.  Thankfully, Duck was there to keep us dry.
  • A visit to The Wolfsonian.  An interesting and very manageable museum.  The French design exhibition, “Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity,” and the “Manifest and Mundane: Scenes of Modern America from The Wolfsonian Collection” show are worth a visit.  Also, the museum store and cafe is pretty terrific.
  • Delicious and amazing meals at YUCA, STK Miami, David’s Cafe, juice & java, and The Dutch.
  • Marathon Sunday!  As evidenced in the picture above, an early start to beat the heat.  We got up around 3:30a and left the hotel around 4a so Liz could meet up with the Team In Training team at 4:30a.  The race started at 6:15a.  Liz finished in 4:24:33.  Awesome.  I’m so very proud of her.  An incredibly inspiring morning.  Also, cowbells are fun.

Overall, a terrific and relaxing (much needed) four day weekend.  Glad to be home, but man, I can’t wait to get back to Miami.  Weekend getaways are important and we all need to get away more often.
