We have a dodgeball team at work that’s been playing together for a few seasons. Good times. Last night was this season’s playoffs (we came in second place). Here are some lessons learned from last night and other evenings past:
- When attempting to catch a ball, don’t reach for it. Let it come to you. It’s a lot easier to catch after the ball after it hits you squarely in the chest. If you’re attempting to catch a ball that has ricocheted off someone else, or was deflected by your teammate with another ball, dive, jump, and try to catch it in a spectacular fashion. Don’t be afraid to fall into a barrel roll after you hit the ground.
- Aim low. Higher balls are easier to catch, head shots are against the rules.
- Super tall tube socks are great.
- Don’t forget to stretch. Before and after, you’re not as young as you used to be.
- Definitely go for drinks afterwards. The beers, wings, and french fries will definitely hit the spot. When you get home, have some pistachio ice cream. It’s what’s for dinner.
I would also like a hover house.
“I really like her,” he said followed by a swift bite into his first curry puff. There were only two.
“And you should. She’s really great. Don’t fuck it up.”
He nodded his head in agreement and finished his first puff.
“I’ll try not to.”
I sipped a spoonful of soup. Tom Yum. The right amount of sour, I stirred around looking for a piece of chicken.
He took a bite of his second puff. And then, a revelation.
“I have a crush on the girl that I’m dating.”
We both stopped eating, for only a second, and smiled.
“Yeah…”
He finished his second puff. I enjoyed my soup. There was more chicken in the bowl than I thought there would be.
We devoured our entrees shortly after they were placed on our table. Still hungry we ordered a post main course appetizer. Spring rolls, two apiece. We should have ordered more.
The decision to eat ice cream and watch tv instead of going to the gym after dinner was definitely the right idea tonight. Why? The ice cream was pistachio and Empire Records was on.
On stating the obvious…Elvis Costello is so damn cool.
One of my bosses brought in her son today. He’s eight. I made him a couple of paper airplanes. He made me a mustache. It’s blue and it’s awesome.
